Safe in Heaven
Needless to say, it's always an experience, when God wants a poem delivered, to someone I've never met. My next story takes me on such an adventure. Its about a young girl, and her family.
As I was throwing the newspapers into the recycling box, my eyes were drawn to, a small photo of a pretty teenage girl. Her name was Jennie, and a few weeks before Christmas, at the age of 17, she was killed by a drunk driver.
Since my husband's the only one that reads the paper, I wasn't aware of this tragedy until now. The fact that it was being brought to my attention, meant that God wanted me to make a connection.
Perhaps I should call the school mentioned in the paper, to get an address. That way I could send a poem. But it was Saturday, so I'd have to wait until Monday.
We were also about to leave for our son, Brian's, hockey game. Since he had to be there an hour before it started, I would use that time to write Jennie's family a letter. I had a poem in mind that I wanted to print and bring along, but I couldn't call it up on the computer. Which meant God wanted something else. So I prayed, scrolled down, and as I read the titles, Safe in Heaven, was the one.
Now that I had the poem printed on fancy cloud paper, I grabbed a matching envelope and some stationery. When we arrived at the out of town game. I found a quiet place to sit and write my letter.
A little while later, a group of teenagers had gathered and began talking. It seemed one of their friends had been killed in a car accident, and they felt all the unusual things that were happening, was because Jennie wanted to let them know she was "Safe in Heaven".
I about fell off the bench! I could hardly contain myself, as I turned around and said, "you aren't going to believe this but..."
The girl who'd been talking introduced herself as Audrey. Explaining that she was there to watch her brother Dan play hockey. Audrey wanted me to share the story and poem with her mom, Anne. Which I did, when I learned her sister was Jennie's mom, we both started crying. Talk about "special delivery".
If that doesn't convince you God was orchestrating all this, what happened next surely will! In the ten years Dan has played hockey, his aunt has never once come to a game. Yet; while we were waiting for the game to start, a woman came in and sat down next to Anne and I. It was Jennie's mother!
It was freezing inside the hockey rink, so I asked her where her coat was. She replied, I didn't bring one, because I never intended on coming inside. She wasn't even sure why she came. Wow! Doesn't even come close to describing this one.
"Oh, Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His loving kindness continues forever."
Psalm 136:1 TLB

My soul is saddened and filled with so much sorrow...
As I dread the loneliness I'll face tomorrow.
Oh dear Lord, please take my hand...
Helping me to understand.
Why some are given, a whole life time to grow old...
While others are so young, when they're called to Your fold?
And will this heartbreaking hurt, ever go away...
Or will this gut wrenching pain, plague me everyday?
Please come to Me and let Me hold you, while you cry...
Take comfort in knowing in Christ, they never die.
For they're safe in heaven, wrapped in all My Love...
Being raised by angels in heaven above.
"I will give glory to Your name forever,
for you love me so much!"

The next day as I lifted this hurting family up in prayer, the Spirit began to speak to my heart. This time with a new poem specifically for someone in there family.
Based on the words flowing onto my paper, someone was struggling with the heartache, of not having said good bye.
While at the hockey rink, we'd exchanged phone numbers and addresses. So I could now call and share this latest gift.
It wasn't until I read the poem, that I was informed that Jennie had been on her way to give her boyfriend Aaron his Christmas present when she was killed.
While her family was struggling with this devastating loss, Aaron was also having a very difficult time, because he never go to say good-bye.
Once again I was overwhelmed by God's compassion, for all of this could only be from Him.
This poem is one of my favorites and has ministered to so many broken hearts over the years.

Until We Meet Again

There was a reason and this is why...
We didn't get time to say good-bye.
When one says good-bye, they leave or depart...
I've never left you, I'm there in your heart.
The hurt and sorrow will slowly go away...
But the precious love, we shared, will always stay.
It remains, as memories, that will last forever...
Of those special places and times, we shared together.
So it's "until we meet again" and not good-bye...
For whoever believes in Him will never die!
"We know these things are true by believing, not by seeing.
And we are not afraid, but are quite content to die,
for then we will be at home with the Lord."
